I have been reading for a while about Microsofts push to make OOXML an ISO/IEC standard.
Throughout there has been a camp that is pro OOXML (mainly microsoft) and a camp that is anti OOXML (the rest of the world).
Today, however came the news that ISO/IEC had accepted OOXML as an international standard. Having a standard is generally a good thing, as it gives people fixed guide lines to work in and stops everyone from trying to reinvent the wheel. However when you read articles like this, this and this, you have to wonder if making OOXML a standard is actually taking a step back.
